Kombucha
Kombucha is a tea mushroom (or Japanese mushroom). It's a colony of bacteria and special yeast culture grown on sweetened tea. The kombucha drink is prepared on its base. So kombucha is referred as the tea mushroom but it is not really a mushroom. It look like cake-shaped jelly mass.When added to sweetened tea it initiates the fermentation process resulting in a kombucha drink.
Kombucha has many healing values and it has been used as natural medicine for over two thousand years. It includes:
- vitamins B and C
- acetic, lactic and gluconic acid
- minerals such as: zinc, magnesium, calcium, iron and copper
In drink we can also find alcohol, caffeine and sugar. Kombucha drink may help fight several diseases.
At
present, however valid medical studies
of kombucha tea’s role in human health are very limited and the risk associated
with it. There have been several reports of adverse effects, such as
infections, stomach upset and allergic reactions in kombucha tea drinkers.
Therefore recommended is to avoid kombucha tea until scientists gets more
definitive information.
