Article: "Omega-3s: consuming more oily fish could prevent asthma in children with specific gene variant"

Today i read an article called „Omega-3s : consuming more oily fish could prevent asthma in children with specific gene variant” by Seif Shaheen. The text tells that scientists found that higher consumption of certain types of omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of a child developing asthma in adolescence.

Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic illness in childhood. Although most people have medicines to control the condition, there is still no cure for asthma.  That’s why this discover may be life-saving for others. Team of scientists decided to investigate whether diet was connected with a child developing asthma during childhood. They started to  monitore the health of more than 4,000 children. They analised if two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, knowns as EPA and DHA mainly found in fish, could reduce the risk of developing asthma. And it really make changes! Children who consumed the equivalent of at least two servings of fish per week, had roughly half the risk of developing asthma compared to those who rarely consumed fish.

That is so fascinating that what we eat in early childhood can have huge affect on our health in the future.
