Disinformation war
We live in the 21sth century, where technology is an integral part of everyone's life. It's from the internet that we get the most information. So if one day someone just cut us off from it, it would have a tremendous impact on us. We can see it in the example of the war currently taking place in Ukraine. Russian citizens don't get any confirmed information about the Russian invasion of Ukraine from independent media. The only news they get is propaganda from state-controlled media. Hi-tech companies such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter are taking action against Russian propaganda in the media. For example, Twitter started labeling all tweets links to Russian state-affiliated media so users could recognize that the information might not be reliable.
Internet and media have a massive influence on our everyday life. Most of us believe in almost anything that we see on social media. That is terrifying because it's so easy to manipulate people on a mass scale by delivering false and fake information nowadays.

Another question is whether Russians wants to get information from independent sources.
